Tokyo 7-Day Couples Itinerary

A full week of romantic Tokyo - Days 1-5 cover the city's essential intimate experiences, Day 6 escapes to Kamakura's Great Buddha and coastal cliffs, and Day 7 closes gently with Harajuku, Omotesando, and a final neighbourhood evening.

Day 0 - Arrive in Tokyo

Land, Check In, First Evening

Plan: Fly into Haneda (HND). Short 30-min transfer. Settle in, walk the night streets.
Hotel tip: Asakusa for atmosphere (7 nights). The neighbourhood is quiet, beautiful, and puts Senso-ji on your doorstep for Day 1's dawn visit.

Day 1 - Senso-ji Dawn & Skytree Sunset

Senso-ji at Dawn & Sumida Walk

6:30 AM dawn temple: Just you and the pilgrims. Incense, silence, omikuji fortunes (¥100). 45 min. Then Sumida riverside walk watching the Skytree catch morning light.

Afternoon · 15:30

Tokyo Skytree Sunset

Timed entry: Tembo Deck ¥2,100 + Tembo Galleria ¥1,000. Book the sunset slot. Spiral glass walkway at golden hour. City lights emerging below.

Evening · 19:00

Asakusa Riverside Evening Walk

Riverside walk: Stroll the Asakusa riverside area. Enjoy the evening atmosphere and the Sumida River views.

Day 2 - Yanaka & Hamarikyu Tea

Yanaka & Hamarikyu Garden

Yanaka: Pre-war neighbourhood - artisan shops, cats. 1.5 hrs. Via JR Nippori.
Hamarikyu: Tidal formal garden (¥300). The day's quietest and most romantic moment.
Evening: Daikanyama - enjoy a walk through the tree-lined streets.

Day 3 - teamLab Planets & Ginza Galleries

Ginza Art & Afternoon teamLab

Ginza Six gallery (free): Contemporary art inside Japan's most architecturally striking mall. Itoya stationery shop for beautiful notebooks.
teamLab Planets evening slot (¥3,200): 16:00-17:00 timed entry. Infinity flowers, glowing water, and darkness. Book ahead.

Day 4 - Shinjuku Gyoen & Odaiba Sunset

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Three garden styles: French formal, English landscape, traditional Japanese. 58 hectares. ¥500. Spectacular in cherry blossom season (late March-early April).
Duration: 2 hrs.

Afternoon · 15:00

Odaiba Bay Sunset Walk

Yurikamome Line from Shimbashi: The elevated driverless train over Rainbow Bridge is itself part of the journey. 25 min, ¥330.
Odaiba seafront at sunset: Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo skyline, sky turning orange-pink over the bay. One of Tokyo's most visually striking free experiences.

Day 5 - Shimokitazawa & Enoshima

Afternoon · 13:00

Shimokitazawa Afternoon

Shimokitazawa: Vinyl records, vintage fashion, indie live music. Tokyo's best neighbourhood for a slow afternoon. Via Odakyu from Shinjuku (10 min, ¥160).

Day 6 - Kamakura Day Trip

Full Day · 8:30 depart

Kamakura - Great Buddha, Hase-dera & Enoshima

Access: JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Shinjuku to Kamakura (55-65 min, ¥920). Depart 8:30 AM to arrive before the crowds.
Great Buddha (Kotoku-in Daibutsu): 13-metre hollow bronze Buddha from 1252. Entry ¥300. You can enter the statue for ¥20. The scale is genuinely arresting - photographs don't prepare you for it.
Hase-dera temple: Sea-facing cliffs with panoramic Kamakura bay views, a cave system of carved Buddhist figures, and a strikingly beautiful main hall with a golden 9-metre Kannon statue. ¥400.
Enoshima island: 20-min train from Kamakura - a small island connected by a bridge with coastal clifftop walks, a sea cave (¥500), and a lighthouse observation tower. The cliff walk at the western end of the island is the most romantic viewpoint of the trip.
Return: Back to Tokyo by 18:00. Quiet evening in Asakusa to close a beautiful day.

Day 7 - Harajuku, Omotesando & Final Evening

Harajuku & Omotesando

Harajuku: Walk Takeshita Street for the visual spectacle, then transition to Omotesando's wide tree-lined boulevard for the afternoon.
Afternoon: Final souvenir shopping - Omotesando's basement market or Kiddyland toy shop for parting gifts.

Evening · 18:30

Final Neighbourhood Evening

Omotesando or Daikanyama: End the trip with a quiet evening walk through one of Tokyo's most beautiful neighbourhoods. The tree-lined streets and thoughtfully designed buildings are best appreciated slowly, on foot.

Before You Go

Ryokan option. Hoshinoya Tokyo (in Otemachi) is a modern luxury ryokan inside a skyscraper - tatami rooms, rooftop onsen, and a distinctly Japanese experience without leaving the city. Book 2-3 months ahead for weekends.

Enoshima cliff walk. The western Iwaya cave path around the island is the most romantic section - narrow clifftop walk above the Pacific, wildflowers, and dramatic rock formations. Allow 30 min and wear flat shoes.

Best couple photo spots this week. Senso-ji dawn (no crowds), Sumida River Skytree reflection, Hamarikyu teahouse deck, Odaiba bay at sunset, Kamakura Great Buddha close-up, and Enoshima cliff path.

Kamakura timing. Arrive before 10 AM to see the Great Buddha without tour groups. The Enoden tram between Kamakura and Enoshima is a delightful 20-min coastal ride - sit on the left side heading west for ocean views.
