Day 0 - Arrive in Tokyo

Land at Haneda, Check In, Rest

Use Haneda (HND): 30 min to central Tokyo. Essential for seniors - the shorter transfer with luggage is significantly less tiring. Haneda is fully accessible throughout.
Hotel tip: Ginza or Shinjuku for 5 nights. Flat streets, easy train access. Request a room with a bathtub if possible - helpful for tired legs after walking days.
Suica cards: Set up at Haneda airport. Load ¥5,000 - covers all 5 days of Tokyo metro travel.

Access: JR Ueno station elevator → 5-min flat walk through Ueno Park.

Ueno Park & Ameyoko Market

Ueno Park: Flat paved paths, Shinobazu Pond, art museum cluster. 45 min gentle walk.
Ameyoko: Covered outdoor market outside Ueno station - shops and local stalls. 30 min. Return by 15:30.

Day 4 - Tokyo Bay Cruise & teamLab Planets

Tokyo Bay Cruise

Why visit: A boat cruise through Tokyo Bay requires zero walking once aboard - sit on deck or in the indoor cabin and enjoy views of Rainbow Bridge, Odaiba, and the city skyline from the water. A rare chance to see Tokyo without any physical effort.
Operator: Tokyo Cruise (Suijo Bus) runs routes between Hinode Pier and Odaiba (25 min, ¥520). Hinode Pier is accessible from Hamamatsucho station.
Alternative: The longer sightseeing cruises (Himiko or Hotaluna futuristic boat designs) operate 10:00-15:00 - ¥1,720, 50-min cruise. Book ahead on weekends.

teamLab Planets Toyosu

Fully accessible: No stairs anywhere in the venue. Elevators to all zones. The water-wading room has an accessible bypass path for those who prefer not to wade - you can still see the full installation.
Why it's worth it: The immersive art - infinite mirrors, glowing water rooms, a flower overhang - creates wonder in visitors of all ages. Many seniors find the experience deeply moving. Allow 60-90 min at a relaxed pace.
Tickets: ¥3,200. Book timed entry online at least 3 days ahead.
Access: Yurakucho Line to Toyosu station (elevator access), then 5-min flat walk.

Day 5 - Senso-ji & Tokyo Skytree

Senso-ji Temple

Why go at 7 AM: Peaceful, uncrowded, and beautiful in the morning light. The 700-metre Nakamise approach and the main hall are flat and fully accessible. Allow 1 hr.
Asakusa crafts: Stall shops along Nakamise open by 9 AM - seated shopping stalls, traditional crafts, and excellent souvenir ceramics and lacquerware. Allow another 30-45 min.

Tokyo Skytree Observation Deck

Fully accessible: Express elevators from the ground floor to the Tembo Deck (350 m) - no stairs required at any point. The entire observation area is fully accessible with benches and glass barriers for those who prefer not to approach the edge.
Tickets: Tembo Deck ¥2,100 (pre-book online to skip the queue). Allow 1-1.5 hrs including travel time on the elevator.
Return: Hotel by 14:30. Rest before a final relaxed evening.

Before You Go

Bay cruise booking. The Himiko and Hotaluna futuristic boat designs sell out on weekends - book online 3-5 days ahead. The standard Suijo Bus (blue ferry) runs frequently without booking and is equally enjoyable.

Pharmacies. Matsumoto Kiyoshi branches are on every major shopping street - look for the yellow sign. Basic medications are available but may have different brand names. Pack essential prescriptions from home with enough supply for the full trip plus 3 spare days.

Airport accessibility. Both Haneda and Narita have full wheelchair assistance on request - contact your airline 48 hrs ahead. Haneda is considerably easier for mobility-impaired travellers due to its compact layout.

Rest-stop planning. Build a hotel mid-afternoon return into every day - even 45 min of rest at 15:00 makes the difference between an enjoyable evening and an exhausted one. Tokyo's days can be long; protect your energy deliberately.

Google Maps accessibility mode. Enable the wheelchair accessibility filter in Google Maps walking directions - it shows routes that avoid stairs and prefer elevators. Extremely accurate and reliable for Tokyo's metro system.
