Day 0 - Arrive in Tokyo

Land, Check In, First Evening

Plan: Fly into Haneda (HND) - shorter transfer, easier arrival together.
Hotel tip: Asakusa or Ginza for romance. Asakusa is atmospheric and quiet at night; Ginza has great galleries within walking distance.
Tonight: Walk the night streets. That's Day 0.

Day 1 - Senso-ji Dawn, Skytree & Asakusa Riverside

Why go early: 6:30 AM - just you and a handful of pilgrims. Incense smoke, lantern glow, and silence. 45-60 min. Draw omikuji fortunes together (¥100).
After: Sumida riverside walk, watching the Skytree catch the morning light in the water.

Tokyo Skytree Sunset

Book timed entry: Tembo Deck (350 m, ¥2,100) + Tembo Galleria (450 m, +¥1,000). The 1-hour-before-sunset slot is the most coveted - book online 3-5 days ahead.
Experience: The spiral glass walkway at the top during golden hour → city lights at dusk → one of Tokyo's most romantic panoramas.

Asakusa Riverside Evening Walk

Riverside walk: Stroll the Asakusa riverside - enjoy the evening atmosphere and views of the Sumida River.

Day 2 - Yanaka, Hamarikyu & Daikanyama

Yanaka Old Neighbourhood

Why visit: Pre-war Tokyo, intact - winding lanes, artisan shops, and resident cats. Allow 1.5 hrs. Access via JR Nippori station.
Yanaka Ginza: The covered retro shopping street with local craft goods. Very different from tourist Tokyo.

Garden: Tidal formal garden surrounded by skyscrapers. Flat paths, ponds, ducks. ¥300 adults.

Daikanyama: Tokyo's most elegant neighbourhood - Tsutaya Books, boutique hotels, and beautiful tree-lined streets. Enjoy an evening stroll.

Day 3 - Shinjuku Gyoen, teamLab & Shinjuku Rooftop

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

Why it's exceptional: Three garden styles in one - French formal, English landscape, and traditional Japanese. 58 hectares of immaculate green in the middle of Shinjuku. During cherry blossom season (late March to early April) it's transcendent.
Entry: ¥500 adults. Opens 9:00 AM. Closes Monday (check official site for seasonal adjustments).
Duration: Allow 2 hrs to walk through all three garden sections properly.
Cherry blossom timing: Late March to early April in a typical year. The Gyoen fills to capacity on peak blossom weekends - arrive at opening (9 AM) to get in without a long queue.

teamLab Planets Evening Slot

Book an evening slot: The immersive art is noticeably more atmospheric after dark - the infinity rooms feel deeper and the colours are more saturated. ¥3,200, timed entry, book 3-5 days ahead.
For couples: The flower infinity mirror room is the standout for photographs together. The garden room (outdoor finale) is unexpectedly peaceful.
Duration: 60-90 min.

Shinjuku Rooftop Views

Nishi-Shinjuku rooftops: Several hotels in Nishi-Shinjuku offer rooftop or high-floor venues with sweeping city views. These are remarkable spaces for the views alone.
Alternative: Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building has free observation floors (open until 22:30 on most nights) with panoramic Shinjuku views - no booking, no cost.

Before You Go

Cherry blossom timing. Late March to early April - Shinjuku Gyoen is one of Japan's finest sakura spots. If this is your target season, book flights and hotels 3-4 months ahead. Prices spike sharply during hanami peak.

teamLab evening booking. Book the 17:00 or 18:00 slot for the best atmosphere. The outdoor flower garden finale is especially beautiful at dusk. Slots sell out on weekends within hours of opening.

Shinjuku rooftop views. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building observation floors are free and open until 22:30 most nights - no booking required. The Park Hyatt New York Bar is a paid alternative with a legendary city panorama.
