Day 0 - Arrive in Tokyo
Arrival
Land, Check In, Settle
- Plan: Land at Haneda (HND) where possible - 30 min to central Tokyo vs. 60-90 min from Narita. Critical difference with children and heavy bags.
- Hotel tip: Ueno or Shinjuku area. Both are stroller-friendly zones with flat wide streets and excellent supermarkets for restocking kid supplies.
- Tonight: Suica IC cards at the airport, convenience store dinner, early sleep. Day 1 starts bright.
Day 1 - teamLab Planets & Ueno Zoo
Morning · 10:00
teamLab Planets Toyosu
- Why kids love it: The water-wading room and glowing infinity galleries are unforgettable for ages 4+. Allow 60-90 min. Wear shorts.
- Tickets: ¥3,200 adults / ¥1,000 ages 4-12 / free under 4. Pre-book timed entry online.
🚇 30 min - Toyosu → Ueno via Yurakucho + Hibiya Lines (¥260)
Afternoon · 13:00
Ueno Zoo & Ueno Park

- Dinner: Ueno Asakusa area has excellent family ramen shops and conveyor sushi chains.
Day 2 - Tokyo DisneySea (Full Day)
Full Day · 8:30 open
Tokyo DisneySea
- Why it's special: Widely considered the world's best theme park for families. Seven themed "ports of call" - Mediterranean Harbour, Mysterious Island, American Waterfront, and more.
- Highlights for kids: Journey to the Centre of the Earth (thrilling, height 102 cm+), Venetian Gondolas (all ages), Toy Story Mania (all ages), Tower of Terror (height 102 cm+, older kids).
- Tickets: ¥7,900-10,900 adults / ¥5,300-7,300 children depending on date. Book 2 months ahead - sold out on peak dates.
- Transit: JR Keiyo Line from Tokyo station to Maihama (15 min, ¥220), then Disney Resort Line monorail.
- Tips: Buy Disney Premier Access (¥1,500-2,000/attraction) for Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Pack snacks for the queue lines - the park food is great but pricey (meal ¥1,500-2,500).
Day 3 - Meiji Jingu, Harajuku & Omotesando
Morning · 9:00
Meiji Jingu Shrine
- Why visit: Peaceful, forested, and utterly different from the previous two days. Even young children enjoy the towering torii and the giant sake barrels. Allow 1 hr. Free.
🚶 10 min walk - Through Yoyogi Park to Takeshita Street
Late Morning · 10:30
Harajuku Takeshita Street
- Rainbow crêpes at Marion Crêpes, character goods, cotton candy towers. Kids go wild. Keep to 30-45 min before it overwhelms.
- Then: Walk down Omotesando boulevard for a calmer, wider stroll with excellent architecture and people-watching. Window shop and rest at a café.
Afternoon · 14:00
Rest & Dinner Prep
- Return early: After two intense days (zoo + Disney), Day 3 afternoon is intentionally light. Let kids recharge at the hotel pool if available.
- Dinner: Gyudon (beef bowl) at Yoshinoya or Sukiya - ¥400-700, universally loved by children, very fast service.
Day 4 - Odaiba: Legoland & Gundam
Morning · 10:00
Legoland Discovery Centre Odaiba
- Best for: Ages 3-10. A fully indoor LEGO experience with builds, rides, a soft play area, and a 4D cinema. Allow 2 hrs.
- Tickets: ¥2,800 adults / ¥2,400 children. Book online to skip peak-day queues.
- Access: Yurikamome Line from Shimbashi to Daiba station (25 min, ¥330).
🚶 10 min walk - Legoland Odaiba → DiverCity Tokyo Plaza (Gundam statue outside)
Afternoon · 13:00
DiverCity & Life-Sized Gundam Statue
- Gundam: The 18-metre life-sized RX-93ff ν Gundam outside DiverCity is genuinely staggering - kids and parents both love it. Free to view, paid exhibitions inside.
- DiverCity mall: Multiple floors of food, toy shops, and a food court with everything from curry to pizza. Rest here before heading back.
- MEGA WEB / Palette Town: The Toyota car exhibition nearby is free and kids enjoy the interactive displays (check if still open as of your travel date).
Day 5 - Akihabara, Asakusa & Senso-ji
Morning · 10:00
Akihabara Character Goods
- Stops: Pokémon Center (7F Yodobashi Akiba), Animate, and Super Potato retro game shop for older kids. Allow 90 min for proper browsing.
- Budget: Pre-agree souvenir budgets to avoid queue-meltdowns at the register.
🚇 15 min - Akihabara → Asakusa via Tsukuba Express or Ginza Line (¥200)
Afternoon · 13:00
Senso-ji Temple & Nakamise Street
- Why visit: Tokyo's most visited temple - the Kaminarimon Thunder Gate is instantly recognisable. Kids love the Nakamise street stalls selling ningyo-yaki cakes (¥500/bag), senbei crackers, and novelty toys.
- Fortune draw: Omikuji fortune sticks (¥100) are a fun ritual for children who can read numbers.
- Final evening: Asakusa riverside walk at dusk, then a relaxed ramen dinner before final packing.
Before You Go
Disney advance booking. Buy DisneySea tickets 2 months ahead - they sell out on school holidays and peak seasons. The official Tokyo Disney Resort app is essential for queue times and Premier Access.
Legoland book ahead. Legoland Discovery Centre Odaiba has a daily capacity limit. Pre-book online at the official site at least a week ahead in peak months (July-August, Golden Week).
Kids' Suica card. Children aged 6-11 get a children's Suica (half fare) issued at JR East station offices - bring your child's passport for age verification.
Kid-safe food everywhere. Udon, ramen (mild broths available), conveyor sushi, karaage, and gyudon are all widely available and almost universally accepted by children. Vending machines sell cold milk, juice, and warm corn soup.
Toilets. Japan's public toilets are immaculate. Every station, mall, and park has accessible family restrooms. Never worry - you'll find one within 5 min anywhere in Tokyo.
