Day 0 - Arrive in Tokyo
Arrival
Land at Haneda, Check In, Rest
- Use Haneda (HND): Strongly recommended. 30 min to city vs. 60-90 min from Narita. Newer, fully accessible airport - wide corridors, elevators throughout.
- Hotel tip: Ginza or Shinjuku - flat streets, central for all three days' destinations.
- Suica: Get IC cards at Haneda airport. Use them on all trains, convenience stores, and vending machines throughout the trip.
- Tonight: Rest near the hotel.
Day 1 - Hamarikyu Garden & Ginza
Morning · 9:30
Hamarikyu Garden
- Flat formal tidal garden: Paved paths, benches every 50 metres, a traditional teahouse over the water. ¥300 adults. Allow 1.5-2 hrs. Peaceful and beautiful.
- Access: Oedo Line to Shiodome (elevator), then 7-min flat walk.
Afternoon · 13:30
Ginza Galleries, Itoya & Afternoon Rest
- Ginza Six gallery (free): Rotating contemporary art, 6F. Accessible throughout - lifts, benches, accessible toilets on every floor.
- Itoya: 12-floor stationery institution - beautiful, slow, completely accessible. An enjoyable 45-min browse.
- Rest: Benches throughout Ginza Six and Itoya for a comfortable mid-afternoon pause.
Day 2 - Meiji Jingu, Omotesando & Takashimaya
Morning · 9:00
Meiji Jingu Shrine
- Forested flat approach: 700 metres of shaded gravel path to the main shrine. Benches available along the route. Free. Allow 1 hr. Weekday mornings are calm.

Late Morning · 10:30
Omotesando & Rest
- Wide flat boulevard: Tree-lined, benches available, architecturally remarkable buildings. 10-min walk end to end.

- Return: Hotel by 16:00.
Day 3 - Tokyo National Museum & Ueno
Morning · 9:30
Tokyo National Museum, Ueno
- Why it's exceptional: The world's largest collection of Japanese art - samurai swords, imperial pottery, Buddhist sculpture, ukiyo-e woodblocks, and seasonal special exhibitions. World-class content presented with Japan's characteristic care.
- Fully accessible: Elevators to all floors, benches in every gallery, and accessible toilets throughout.
- Tickets: ¥1,000 permanent collection / ¥1,600-2,000 with special exhibitions. Senior discounts available - bring identification.
- Duration: Allow 2-3 hrs for the main Honkan building at a relaxed pace. Don't try to see everything - choose the galleries that interest you most and take your time.
- Best timing: Weekday mornings are significantly quieter. Avoid weekends and public holidays.
- Access: JR Ueno station, Ueno Park exit (elevator), then 5-min flat walk through the park to the museum.
🚶 5 min flat walk - Tokyo National Museum → Ueno Park main path
Afternoon · 13:30
Ueno Park & Ameyoko Market
- Ueno Park: Flat paved paths through one of Tokyo's great public parks - fountains, the art museum cluster, Shinobazu Pond with lotus flowers. Excellent for a slow post-museum walk. Allow 45 min.
- Ameyoko Market: A covered outdoor market just outside Ueno station - clothing, goods, and local vendor culture. Compact and accessible. Allow 30-45 min.
- Return early: Back to hotel by 15:30 - a gentle close to a culturally rich third day.
- Accessible onsen option: Oedo Onsen Monogatari in Odaiba offers a traditional Japanese hot spring experience with accessible changing rooms and relaxed tatami lounges - an optional evening treat for those interested (¥2,750 adults, elevator access throughout).
Before You Go
Museum timing. Tokyo National Museum is quietest on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The ground floor has comfortable seating areas ideal for a rest between gallery wings.
Accessible onsen. Oedo Onsen Monogatari in Odaiba is the most accessible traditional bathhouse experience in Tokyo - wider changing areas, grab bars, and English signage. Note: tattoos are not permitted (a standard Japanese onsen rule).
Priority seating. Every Tokyo train carriage has blue/silver priority seats near the doors - reserved for seniors, pregnant women, and those with disabilities. In Japan, these are genuinely respected. Feel free to use them.
Rest every 90 minutes. Build deliberate rest stops into the plan. Japan's public spaces - parks, museums, department stores - have excellent seating. Never hesitate to sit and pause for as long as needed.
Station assistance. JR East and Tokyo Metro stations all have assistance staff at the main gates. Show them your destination and they will walk you to the right platform and elevator. Never hesitate to ask.
